The Sixers head coach was seated at the piano bench Friday night.
Former Philadelphia 76ers head coach Doc Rivers had to be dragged off the golf course, but we knew when he joined the Sixers that Nick Nurse had a different hobby: music. Nurse is a big-time music aficionado and has been working hard in his spare time to master both the guitar and the piano. During his time with the Toronto Raptors, he had appeared on stage playing guitar with the Canadian rock band Arkells.
Of course, now that he’s in the City of Brotherly Love, Nurse has to start jamming with a group with Philadelphia roots. So it was really cool to see the Sixers head coach on stage Friday night with Mt. Joy, playing piano to a cover of Fleetwood Mac’s Dreams.

It’s a fitting song choice, as with Paul George joining the squad this year, Sixers fans have dreams of finally reaching the Eastern Conference Finals. Thunder only happens when it’s rainin’ threes, or something like that. If you’re not familiar with Mt. Joy, two members, Matt Quinn and Sam Cooper, met at Conestoga High School and named the band after a spot in Valley Forge National Park. If you think bringing out Nurse was the only Philly sports pandering the band was doing during the show, you’d be wrong.

I never put the Phanatic and ABBA together in the same head space, but darn if it ain’t perfect.
Anyway, glad to see Nurse having some fun with the offseason winding down and training camp just a little over a week away. Pretty soon, Sixers fans are going to want to see the team’s revamped roster making beautiful music together on the court.
