The rookie guard for the Sixers has exceeded even the wildest expectations and the digital world has noticed.
NBA 2k25 released their first rating updates across the league on Thursday, with Jared McCain headlining his rookie class.

McCain started the season at a 73 overall rating. After the latest update, it has been boosted to 83 — which is currently the best for the 2024 draft class. Lakers forward Dalton Knecht is right behind at an 80 overall, with Zach Edey (79), and first overall pick Zaccharie Risacher (78) rounding out the top.
In the past, we’ve seen pretty substantial jumps from players. However, McCain improving 10 overall points in a single update marks one of the biggest jumps in the game’s history.
McCain’s averages across the board are stellar. Since being inserted into the starting lineup, he’s averaged 25.8 points and 5.8 assists in 36.6 minutes of play while shooting 50 percent from the field and 46.2 percent from three.
Rookies aren’t the only ones to get an update, however, with entire teams being updated accordingly. For the Sixers, more than half of the roster saw updates:
- Joel Embiid: 95 OVR (-1)
- Paul George: 88 OVR (-1)
- Jared McCain: 83 OVR (+10)
- Kelly Oubre Jr.: 78 OVR (-1)
- Guerschon Yabusele: 78 OVR (+2)
- Andre Drummond: 76 OVR (-1)
- Eric Gordon: 74 OVR (-2)
- Reggie Jackson: 73 OVR (-1)
- Ricky Council IV: 72 OVR (-1)
2k ratings are typically hit or miss, but pretty much everything here makes sense. Jared McCain and Guerschon Yabusele have been the biggest silver linings so far this season, and have had their ratings progress accordingly.
This is the first update of many throughout the season, but Jared McCain is most certainly trending in the right direction on the court and in the video game world.
