Jared McCain took a hard fall late in the fourth quarter and was taken to the hospital for further evaluation. He was released early Thursday morning, the team said.
Update, Oct. 17, 11:34 a.m.: Jared McCain has been released from the hospital and is resting at home, the Sixers say.
Bleacher Report’s Chris Haynes had more details:
Sources: Philadelphia first-round pick Jared McCain experienced pulmonary contusions from last night’s fall vs. Brooklyn. He’s been discharged from hospital and is home resting. Will be re-evaluated today for concussion but there’s optimism the rookie avoided a serious injury. pic.twitter.com/2YalkHROEb

The Sixers are giving everyone a scare a day, as only they can. In all seriousness, it’s great to see that McCain appears to have avoided any serious injury after that nasty fall. The 2024 first-round pick had a strong training camp and has earned a lot of praise from head coach Nick Nurse over the course of the preseason.
Well, this preseason hasn’t been very kind to the Sixers. For the second straight game they’ve had someone leave the game due to injury.
Tonight, it was Jared McCain, who took this very hard fall towards the end of the fourth quarter.
Another hard fall this game… this time, it’s Sixers’ rookie Jared McCain, who came down hard on his back.

McCain took a long time just to sit up, and appeared to have a hard time breathing as he was being helped back to the locker room. The team has already provided an update, saying that he is being evaluated by the medical staff, including concussion testing.

Nick Nurse provided slightly more of an update in his postgame press conference, telling reporters that McCain is on his way to the hospital to get checked.
“I thought he maybe got the wind knocked out of him,” Nurse said, “[I’m] not quite sure what was going there, but I’ve never quite seen one like that before.”
Obviously the team won’t know anymore until McCain undergoes further testing, but hopefully getting the wind knocked out of him was the extent of this fall.
