Did the Sixers Season Turn on Chicken Nuggets?
Well, it’s official. The 76ers are in the playoffs.
During the second half of a playoff play-in game this week against the Miami Heat and the once-loved Jimmy Butler, the last gasp for a 76ers team clinging to the last ray of hope for a team that has convinced itself and the City of Philadelphia that a title is within reach.
So, was it flawless outside shooting, a huge advantage in offensive rebounding, or a decisive advantage in the turnover battle?
Nope.
Amid a double-digit deficit in the second half, something in the Wells Fargo Center gave fans a reason to cheer besides the Sixers. After Miami Heat’s Caleb Martin missed two free throws — the Chik-Fil-A “Brickin for Chicken.”
Here’s how it works.
The day after the Sixers game, when an opposing player misses two consecutive free throws during the second half of a game at the Wells Fargo Center, fans can receive chicken nuggets via the Chick-fil-A App at participating Philadelphia area Chick-fil-A restaurants without having made a previous purchase.
The first time the consecutive miss happens, you get a free five-piece chicken nugget. The second time, it grows to an eight-piece. If a third time happens in the second half, you’ll get a 12-piece the day after.
The Philadelphia area market includes seventy-four Chick-fil-A restaurants in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware. Each restaurant is individually franchised.
According to the Sixers Page on NBA.com, 780,928 have been given out.
That is a lot of chicken.
If the Sixers are successful during the home game playoffs at the Wells Fargo Center, the Delaware Valley will be feasting on a lot of chicken nuggets this spring.
Hope you are hungry, Philly.
