It’s been a super rough start for the Philadelphia 76ers during the 2024-25 season.
They’ve lost nine of their first 11 games and are at the bottom of the Eastern Conference. It’s a place nobody expected to be after they made the playoffs last year considering the talent they have.
Tensions are high and it led to Tyrese Maxey challenging Joel Embiid to be on time for team activities since he’s often late for everything.
“Maxey challenged Embiid to be on time to team activities, calling out the 2022-23 league MVP about being late ‘for everything’ and how it impacts the locker room, from other players to the coaching staff, sources briefed on the meeting told ESPN,” ESPN’s Shams Charania reports.
Charania also reported that Maxey and Embiid have a great relationship and that this is nothing new. They always challenge each other when they need it and right now, Embiid does.
Embiid has only played in three games this season and is off, averaging only 14.7 points and 6.3 rebounds per game. He’s coming off a season in which he averaged 34.7 points and 11 rebounds per game.
He needs to raise his level quite a bit if the 76ers want to dig themselves out of this hole. In addition to being at the bottom of the East, the 76ers are tied with the Washington Wizards for the worst record in the NBA.
76ers head coach Nick Nurse has a tall task ahead of him for the rest of the 2024-25 season.
The 76ers will be back in action on Wednesday against the Memphis Grizzlies. Tip-off will be at 8 p.m. ET.
