With less than a month left in the regular season, the Philadelphia 76ers remain one of the most disappointing teams in the NBA. This was especially true after the team signed nine-time All-Star Paul George away from the Los Angeles Clippers in the offseason. However, to say their season has not gone according to plan would be an understatement. Former MVP Joel Embiid only played 19 games this season before the team shut him down the rest of the way. Furthermore, Jared McCain, who looked like a legitimate Rookie of the Year candidate, suffered a season-ending knee injury in December. Currently, the 76ers own a 23-44 record and are highly unlikely to secure a postseason spot this year. Additionally, the team will now be even more shorthanded going forward.
According to NBA insider Shams Charania, the 76ers are ruling George out for the rest of the season after receiving an injection in his left adductor muscle.

Where the 76ers Go From Here
While not technically impossible, it will be very difficult for the 76ers to make a postseason appearance this year. They are five games behind the No. 10 seed Chicago Bulls. Additionally, they are 3-15 in their last 18 games. With George officially out for the rest of the season, it would make sense for the 76ers to just let it ride the rest of the way and see what the rest of the team can do.
A playoff appearance this year can likely be ruled out. However, the 76ers will hope to get back on track next year. When healthy, the 76ers have an intriguing team. A trio of Embiid, George, and Tyrese Maxey is very solid. However, health was a major concern heading into the year, and it likely will be next year as well.
The Last Word On Paul George’s Injury
Currently, the 76ers are a team to monitor in the offseason. As it stands, the moves they make over the summer could be very telling of their immediate outlook. Hopefully for them, George can come back as healthy as possible.
