The 2024-25 season has not gone according to plan for the Philadelphia 76ers. After a busy offseason, many had high hopes for the team. However, with a month left, they rank among the bottom teams in the NBA. With a 22-43 record, they stand as the third-worst team in the Eastern Conference. Additionally, they are five games behind a Play-In spot and have already ruled Joel Embiid out for the rest of the year. Barring a late-season push, the 76ers are going to miss the postseason this year. Because of their disappointing season, the 76ers could look into making a change in the offseason. And according to Hoops Wire’s Sam Amico, the 76ers could make a major trade involving Paul George.
Philadelphia signed George away from the Los Angeles Clippers in the offseason. At the time, many liked his fit alongside Embiid and Tyrese Maxey. However, injuries have continued to be a problem for the 34-year-old. According to Amico, the 76ers could look to trade George this offseason.
“The Philadelphia 76ers will try to trade small forward Paul George this summer, an NBA source told Hoops Wire.”
“Some members of the Sixers wanted George traded at the NBA trade deadline, a league source told Hoops Wire.”

In his first season in Philadelphia, George is averaging 16.2 points, 5.3 rebounds, 4.3 assists, and 1.8 steals over 41 games.

Paul George Is Consulting With Doctors
George has missed each of the 76ers’ last three games and four of their last five with a groin injury. Given that the 76ers are nearly eliminated from playoff contention, it could make sense for them to play this as safely as possible. On Thursday, NBA insider Shams Charania reported that George is consulting with doctors on potential treatment options for his groin and knee injuries. Additionally, Charania reported that this could include a procedure and that a decision is expected early next week.

This will certainly be something to monitor. If his injury is too big of a problem, it could make sense for the 76ers to shut him down for the rest of the season. Regardless, until an update is official, it will be worth keeping an eye on George’s status.
The Last Word
Even if the 76ers truly wanted to trade George, this could prove difficult. The nine-time All-Star still has three years remaining on his four-year, $211 million contract after this one. This includes a $56.6 million player option for the 2027-28 season. Furthermore, George is turning 35 in May and has long dealt with injury problems. If the 76ers are serious about moving on from George, it will be tough to find a trade partner willing to bring him in.
